Getting The Kids Attention...

I like this. I could have seen my step-dad making me stand on a street corner somewhere like this, if I had screwed up and let my grades drop.

If as a parent, you have went to the well and tried...what is wrong with taking it up a notch.

This is up a notch. I'd much rather see her mother take this action rather than at a future point having to deal with her standing on a street corner for an entirely different reason.

The rose-colored glasses, touchy-feely, American sensibility of child rearing is such a pain in the ass.

Dr. Phil can't raise your kids for you. Oprah can't raise your kids for you. Spongebob can't raise you kids for you. Same with Dr. Seuss and television.

The whole rewarding positive behavior is crap. It is nice to do something nice when they do something nice. But if they come to expect rewards for doing the right thing...well...

There is right...and there is wrong. You shouldn't reward anyone for doing the right thing. You have to teach them to do the right thing because it's the right thing.

So now, it's bad to show children the consequences of their actions...

So between not spanking them, and not getting on them when they do something wrong, and not showing them the consequences of their actions...how much are our taxes going to need to go up to build the extra prisons that we will need as they come of age not knowing how to act properly in public or the difference in right and wrong.

It looks like the entire child development industry has lost the idea of "tough love." Tough love is the best way to teach a child. You are hard on them, but you make damn sure that they know that you love them and that you'll do anything that you can to help them.
