NASCAR Implementing the Roush Rules for 2006

Starting next year, teams will be limited in the number of cars they can field.

The limit...4 car teams.

This puts Roush beyond the veil with his 5 car team. Currently, he fields the #6-Viagra-Mark Martin, #17-DeWalt-Matt Kennseth, #16-Subway/Coast Guard-Greg Biffle, #97-Irwin/Crown Royal-Kurt Busch, #99-Office Depot/Scotts-Carl Edwards.

You'll notice that those are all five high tone names in the racing world. All five made it into the NEXTEL Cup Chase.

Going five for five must have pissed Roush's competition off.

True, next year they are going to be grandfathered in, but beyond that as contracts expire, they will be required to conform.

This is being shopped to the public as allowing the smaller teams to compete. The one and two car teams.

This is a shot directly at Roush by his competition, Hendrix Motorsports(4 cars), Joe Gibbs Racing(3 cars), Richard Childress Racing(3 cars), and Dale Earnhardt, Incorporated(2 cars)

The other thing that those teams have in common...they are all Chevys, while Roush is part of the Ford group. The only other major Ford teams is Robert Yates Racing(2 cars)

I'm not crying conspiracy...but its damned fishy to me.

Why wasn't the limit put at 5 cars, since a successful 5 car team already exists?
