So Dry...
It is so dry in the Southern Great Plains that Oklahoma and northern Texas have become tinder boxes. Wildfires are raging all over from south of Dallas and Ft. Worth sporadically all the way north up into the Oklahoma City area.
They said on the news tonight that it would take ten inches of rain to break the drought that has gripped this region this year.
The weird thing is that last year was one of the five or six wettest years on record. This year...is one of the driest, ever.
The humidity, which in this part of Texas, is usually way too damned high is in the single digits or the teens. And it is dry...very dry.
There are outdoor burn bans in effect all over north central Texas.
A local fire department discovered the ignition source for one of the wildfires. Some idiot burned some trash outside in defiance of the local burn ban...and for his trouble he burned a couple of families out of house and home and a couple of hundred acres of land.
50 homes over a 5 County area and 1 fatality so far.
We need some rain.
A cold front is supposed to come through later tonight, but there isn't any associated rain, just a lowering of temperature and a slight up tick in the humidity.
We'll see.
The weathermen are calling for a continued red flag warning with gusty winds and dry air.
