NASCAR Swings the Big Stick Again...

Two crew chiefs and a crew member were caught in the dragnet this time.

An improperly attached weight was found during practice in Atlanta on the Scott Riggs-driven, Ray Everham #10 Valvoline Dodge. Crew chief Rodney Childers was fined $10,000. From the description, the weight was placed in a position which would alter the aero attitude of the car in an advantageous way. If Childers had been caught previously, he would have probably been suspended ala Chad Knaus, who returns this week at Bristol.

And...DAMMIT, David Hyder, crew chief on the Ken Schrader-piloted, Wood Brothers #21 Little Debbie/Motorcraft Ford was fined $1,000 for an unapproved side window discovered during pre-qualifying inspection. I'm not sure what the advantage is in a side window, unless it pushed the side of the car out in such a way that it altered the air flow over the car thus giving the car that all important aero advantage. And just to show that I'm not a hypocrite, even when it comes to my beloved Ken Schrader, the Wood Brothers #21 should have been fined 25 owner and driver points in addition to the monetary fine. Oh, and the monetary fine should have matched the one accessed against the Troy Aikman/Roger Staubach team at Daytona for the unapproved carburetor.

Unapproved parts is unapproved parts.

The other matter...a member of the HAAS/CNC race team that fields the #66 Best Buy car for Jeff Green was suspended for an indefinite period of time for duplicating NASCAR credentials.

You have to wonder...who in the hell was he trying to sneak in. I hope it was worth it cause he's a little fish, it'll be a long, long time before they reinstate him.
