The 43 Days of Daytona - 27th Place in 2005

Over the 43 days leading up to the Daytona 500, I'll be doing a short review/preview of the Top 43 Drivers of 2005.

----------------

Kyle Petty
#45 - Wells Fargo

Kyle ran a full season in the Petty Enterprises #45-Georgia Pacific Dodge. He recorded 2 Top 10s, no Top 5s and no poles. His average start was 32.9. His average finish was 24.5. He finished 27th in points with winning totaling $3,431,012.

Every year, a rumor or two will surface about his possibly moving into a more front office type of position with Petty Enterprises, but don't look for that to happen for at least another season.

This season the Georgia Pacific and Brawny sponsorships that have graced the #45 for the last few seasons are going away. In their place will be an amalgam of Wells Fargo for 12 races and, possibly, the Schwans sponsorship that was with Ken Schrader over on the #49 for the last two seasons.

Kyle Petty has become one of my heroes alongside his dad, but for reasons totally unrelated to racing. In honor of the memory of his son, Adam, who passed away in a racing incident at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire, he and his family started The Victory Junction Gang Camp.

The Victory Junction Gang Camp is about fueling ill children with memories that will sustain and inspire them! For the children, it's as simple as kicking back and relaxing, making friends with other children who have illnesses, not worrying about being different, experiencing the fun and activities of summer camp and making memories.

Adam was a 4th-generation racer and the boy had talent. He'll be missed.

Will sponsorship be big enough to allow the team to field a car every week? I don't think it's all in place yet, but I'm betting the car will have sponsorship necessary to run the year.

Do I think he could go win a championship? No.

Do I think he could win a race or two and have a good season? He could have a good season, but I doubt that he will win a race this year.
